The most beautiful and unusual buildings in the world: Seattle Public Library
The Seattle Public Library was founded in 1890, although it was able to receive its first readers only a year later. A whole network of city libraries began with a modest reading room with several shelves on the third floor of the city hotel in Seattle. Now the library has 26 branches and nearly 2.5 million units of storage, including almost 1 million books and manuscripts.
The Seattle City Central Public Library, as we see it now, was built in 2004. This building is a futuristic structure made of glass, concrete and metal. The creator of the project of the library is Rem Kulhas, who wanted to completely change the citizens’ idea of libraries, making it very modern and graphic. The materials that were used in the process of building the library were used most up-to-date at that time, and the city spent as much as $ 165 million on the construction itself, which is a rather impressive amount for the library.
The architect, mainly, wanted to make the building exactly like this, in order to attract the younger generations to read and show them that reading and books are not boring and outdated.
It is worth noting that the idea of the architect was a success: the majority of citizens supported the project and were extremely pleased with the final result of the construction. Today, about 2 million visitors visit the library every year.
Attracts tourists and readers here and the unusual and original arrangement of books on the shelves in the style of car parking, twisting spiral. A book ramp connects the floors where reading rooms are also located. Inside the library looks very colorful and modern.
The walls in different rooms are painted with bright and rich colors, and escalators take readers to the desired floor. Thanks to the glass walls, the library is always very light and spacious. Here you can also sit comfortably on soft poufs or work on computers.
